PCB Design involves the following steps
1. Schematic Design
Circuit diagram is given as input to the PCB Designer. So, the circuit diagram cannot be used in the same format, it has to be converted into Schematic diagram. Initially the symbols have to be created for all the components. Now the symbols placed and connections are made as per the circuit diagram. Schematic diagram have to be verified with the circuit diagram. There is a possibility that there may be changes in the circuit diagram during any time of PCB Design. So these changes in the circuit diagram have to be implemented in the schematic diagram. Once the Schematic Design is completed, the Bill of Material and Netlist are generated.
2. Component Creation
Using the Bill of Material, the datasheets for all the components are collected. Based on the datasheet, the PCB Footprint for all the components are created and saved in the PCB Library.
3. Layout Design
Netlist generated from the Schematic Design is imported in the PCB Layout. If there are any changes in the Schematic Design, those changes should be implemented in the Layout Design. Components are placed in the layout as per the netlist so that the components are placed closer to each other and routing will be easy. It is important to follow the customer guidelines and inputs for placement, routing and for any part of the work in PCB Design. Once layout design is completed, it should be checked completely.
4. Files for Manufacturing
PCB Design is completed only when the required manufacturing files are generated in the correct format. PCB Designer should strictly follow the procedures and formats given by the customer for sending the manufacturing files.
